"error: access denied"
Hey guys, I am new to this program... I got this program in hopes of removing restrictions on one of my user accounts, however, when I sign on with the administrator acc and attempt to change restrictions on other user nameby clicking on the user name it displays - error: access denied.... if i cant open the acc, how am i going to remove the restrictions.
Some of the restrictions are: no shut down button and"run" command in start menu; cant access task manager, etc.
Thank you.

Hi Blooddraine,
Error access denied is caused by incorrect permissions. Before we start, please help me clarify the following questions:
1. Did this issue occur on other accounts within SteadyState?
2. Please let me know the exact error message.
Let's logon Windows XP from Safe Mode with the build in administrator to check this issue:
a. Restart the computer, press F8 to show the boot menu.
b. Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
c. Logon with Administrator (there is no password by default unless you set it during the installation of the system)
d. Start SteadyState to access the account again.
Best Regards.

I had this same problem. Very frustrating.. The exact error message is "Access is denied." With a banner that reads "Error" and thebox has a big red X.. In other words,I am&^%$...
I have a fresh install of XP and steadystate v2.5. I access steadystate while logged in as the administrator only. I created a new local user and locked all settings for the user in steadystate. I logged in as the locked user and it worked great. Now when I go back as the administrator and try to access the account I get this error. I am even locked out of the user profile in C:\Documents and Settings\
What I have found is that you have to launch a system desktopto regainaccess to the profile and you can essentially save your ^%#@ here with these directions...
1.) Start/Run/cmd.exe
2.) C:\> at TIME /interactive cmd.exe(TIME is replaced by the currentmilitary time plus one minute) - This will open a new cmd window as the system..
3.) Launch the task manager and go to the processes tab
4.) Findand End Task on theexplorer.exe process
5.) From the system cmd window type - explorer
6.) A New system desktop is created and younow control your computer once again..
Hope this helps

Hi Shawn, In Safe Mode, under both the admin account and the named administrator account, I still get "access is denied" on just one profile. I also tried kagaroo's solution, which didn't help. I noticed that Sean Zhu pointed to this thread as a solution to someone else, but I don't see any next steps? Thanks, Hilary Caws-Elwitt Edited: I wonder if Sean meant to link to this post instead: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowssteadystate/thread/bdfd643f-100c-4abb-8e70-371ede521d90/ I'm going to try those fixes next time I have access to the computer & I will post back.

Also had the same problem with one of my Admin accounts. What I did was I go to the user profile folders under Documents and Settings. Select the folder of the account that i'm getting "access denied" error, select properties, then go to the Security
tab. Found out that the Administrator account that I'm using doesn't have access privileges to the folder. So I add the Administrator account then gave it full access to the folder. That's it. You can control it now from the Steadystate control panel.
